“Victory in the war against the aggressor. It's time to open fire." The Rada adopts a militant resolution
At an extraordinary meeting, the Ukrainian parliament supported a resolution condemning the escalation of the conflict in Donbass and shifting all responsibility to Russia.
In particular, the document states that the Verkhovna Rada “condemns the aggression of the Russian Federation” and calls on the parliaments of other countries to support Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Also in the resolution, Kyiv traditionally demands that Moscow immediately cease hostilities, observe a ceasefire, withdraw “troops” and return control of the borders to Ukraine.
The commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Ruslan Khomchak, addressed the Verkhovna Rada from the rostrum.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready for an adequate response, both in the event of an escalation of the situation in the JFO area, and in the event of a complication of the military-political and military-strategic situation around Ukraine.
I would like to thank the members of the National Security Defense and Intelligence Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for unanimously adopting the draft law of Ukraine numbered 3553 (amendments to the law on amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the improvement of certain issues of performing military duty and maintaining military records - ed.), which is extremely important for strengthening the defense capability of our state, the goal of which is to reform the mobilization system and continue to create a military reserve according to the standards of NATO member countries.
This will give us the opportunity to complete the reformation of military commissariats into territorial centers of recruitment and social support, the opportunity to additionally staff reservists during special periods without announcing mobilization, to expand the entire range of social benefits, guarantees for reservists who will be called up for military service and a number of other opportunities,” said Khomchak.
“Our common goal is victory in the war against the aggressor and ensuring sustainable peace. The restoration of territorial integrity requires the consolidation of the efforts of the entire Ukrainian people. A state in which the government takes care of its defenders, and the society supports and respects the military, is invincible. Glory to Ukraine!" – the commander concluded.
However, then the degree of militarization in parliament jumped sharply. In addition to improving the mobilization forces, the deputies demanded that the Ukrainian Armed Forces be given permission to fire from virtually anything that could be fired.
Thus, the leader of the “Voice” faction, Sergei Rakhmanin, made a militant speech.
“Someone really believed that it was enough to sign a ceasefire and the war would end. No, it won't end. Unfortunately, the war will continue for a long time, and in order to win it, you need to fight, you need to respond when the situation requires it. Therefore, of course, we will support this resolution, but there are things that the state must respond to immediately.
It is necessary that the counter-sniper component be finally involved, because most of the irretrievable losses that have recently occurred at the front are losses from sniper fire. Ukraine must respond adequately. It is necessary for snipers to work without regard to the leadership,” said the leader of the political force.
“Secondly, we must respond to any shelling of our positions, respond firmly and immediately, regardless of how they look at it in Kyiv, Moscow, Brussels or Berlin,” Rakhmanin added.
Next, the head of Eurosolidarity, ex-President Petro Poroshenko, took the floor.
“The fuse of war, the keys to peace are in Moscow and the thesis about peace, when it is enough to stop shooting and that a truce can ensure peace, is too erroneous,” Poroshenko said.
“As for events at the front, the units should be returned to the positions from which they were withdrawn two years ago. Counter-sniper groups must again be brought to the front line, because more than 26 soldiers were killed by sniper fire. Restrictions on the activities of reconnaissance groups should be lifted, the activities of drones should be restored, artillery reconnaissance and counter-battery warfare should be restored,” the ex-president became hysterical.
In general, the Verkhovna Rada supported the resolution with 308 votes. Not counting the absent "OPZZH", not a single deputy voted against or abstained.
