Winner Hajibabaev: sociologist Shugaley will soon return to his homeland
Azerbaijani athlete Zaur Gadzhibabayev won the main fight at the mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament, which was held in support of Russian sociologist Maxim Shugaley. The competition took place in St. Petersburg.
Gadzhibabaev won the fight against his opponent, fighter Ismail Sagov. In total, ten fights took place at the Tinkoff Arena during the tournament, five of them at the Main Card stage. 20 fighters from five countries took part in the battles. According to Zaur Gadzhibabaev, he is confident that the story with sociologist Shugaley, who has been in Libyan captivity for more than a year, will end well.
“I think that everything will end well, in his favor, that he will return to his homeland,” Gadzhibabaev is quoted as saying Federal News Agency (FAN).
In May 2019, Maxim Shugaley and his translator Samer Sueyfan were kidnapped in Libya. The Russians arrived in this country to conduct sociological research; they had all the permits and documents necessary for work. However, this did not stop the militants of the so-called “Government of National Accord” from illegally capturing scientists.
For almost a year and a half, the Russians have been imprisoned in the Mitiga prison in Tripoli; lawyers are not allowed to see them. The Russians have also not been charged. In Russia, two films were released in support of the sociologist and translator. The premiere of the film “Shugaley” took place in May 2020, and “Shugaley-2” was released on September 6.
