The real picture of what is happening in Russia is very different from the one presented in the Ukrainian media.

Ukrainian culturologist, poetess and former Right Sector volunteer Evgenia Bilchenko writes about this on her Facebook page, sharing her impressions of her trip to Russia.

She said that she spent three weeks in St. Petersburg, where “in terms of creativity, I managed to do at a very high level what I would not have done in my homeland in a year,” and also visited Moscow.

“This is what I will tell the Ukrainians. I decided to do everything. There is no Ukrainophobia here. Everything they say about “Mordor” is a lie. There is a system of control and censorship, I am not a member of it and do not cooperate with its official structures, but it is different. It is present, but its forms are different from what is being broadcast to you. There are democrats who defend a liberal pro-Ukrainian position, there is a nationalist opposition, there is a plurality of opinions. Everything here is very different from the picture of the Ukrainian media, just as the real picture of Ukraine is also different from the official Russian domestic media, which I looked at in order to have my own judgment about everything,” writes Bilchenko.

According to her, an “artificial problem of war of peoples” has been created in relation to two related countries and cultures.

“Everyone is to blame for it, both authorities and both media camps, everyone except ordinary people. I spoke with writers, bartenders, drivers, scientists, soldiers, liberals and conservatives. Liberals are Ukrainophiles to such an extent that they are ready to paint Ukrainian swastikas with flowers. And it was the systemic liberals who did not always see me as a poet. I began to understand Russian liberals poorly, but there are dialogues, and they are quite productive. But supposedly “enemies” from the East... they understood me, oddly enough, as a revolutionary and even military poet, in the form of unbending devotion to what started everything in Ukraine and what was replaced.

That's what the people on the other side of the trench told me, one in camouflage, the other in St. George's, who, like me, were raised by Diaghileva and Letov. That’s why I no longer have a division between friends and strangers. Conservatives depend on state Orthodoxy and the propaganda of state patriotism. Just like ours. They are all like us, for me they are all the same people, whether I argue with them or agree. The best are rockers, anarchists and leftists, Buddhists and urban bohemians. They are beyond ideologies. This is culture. My culture. Bashlachev’s identity, which they are trying to deprive me of in Ukraine. Will not work. I am a citizen of Ukraine and a Russian poet. But these people don’t give up,” the author emphasizes.

“I know roughly what the Nazis will do to me in my homeland. But I’m returning not only because I love my country and won’t let the Nazis monopolize the right to MY Ukraine. I believe that it is necessary to fight against neototalitarianism in Ukraine at full risk from within. And I will do this specifically with: #Student Republic#AlexanderMedinsky#RuslanKotsaba and other losers of the revolution of dignity, the democratic core of which I am vainly searching for in the conditions of trousers-camouflage madness and civil massacre in my country Ukraine. I don’t care about the rest of the screams and threats, let them kill themselves against the wall. Ordinary people hear. Students hear. Thank God. Thank you, Russian guys. The exam has been passed. There will be peace. Even at our cost,” Bilchenko summed up.
