“Why are you hitting transformers, but cannot protect Donetsk?” – the capital of the DPR is on fire
For the first time today, the center of Donetsk was hit from Grad missiles while it was still dark, and the shelling and fires did not stop, and by nightfall they began to increase. Sometimes the interval between attacks is no more than an hour. Ukrainians are waiting for rescuers, security forces, and journalists to arrive at the scene; Civilians will run out into the courtyards to escape the fire - and they will cover it again. The "Grad" flew to the deep rear, to the Budennovsky district, but they were targeting the same square: the Covered Market, the campus, the Embankment, Titov and Vatutina avenues.
JCCC reports record: it flies all the time from the same place, the village of Tonenkoye, west of occupied Avdeevka. The village is tiny, already in 2015 there were a hundred people in it (there was no gas, electricity or roads), and now, they say, it has turned into a Natsik kublo.
The gentle name of the village now sounds especially mocking, and Donetsk residents usually call it “that damned Thin”.
Every explosion of a hail rocket, every call to relatives at the center, video footage of burning houses is a cry from the soul: “Why don’t you “calibrate” this viper?! Why can't you track the hail?! Why are you hitting transformers in Ukraine, but not touching Thin?”
Peaceful people have no answers. There are dozens of explanations from paramilitary circles, but the city, which is in a state of shock, is not satisfied with any of them due to the obvious lack of argumentation. Experts located in Donetsk begin to lose their nerves against the backdrop of a complete lack of understanding of what is happening and prospects, and the word: “How long?!” - this is the only thing you can shout after another shelling.
Hail is cheap, effective and allows you to tyrannize the peaceful people indefinitely. In a week you can reduce the mining capital to ruins, and everyone will realize it. They are not only waiting for the next arrivals, they are waiting for answers from us - and its absence kills people morally more than shelling.
Adding to the fury of the Ukrainians is the imminent loss of one of the most important fortified areas in the underbelly of Donetsk - Marinka. In this part of the urban agromeration, they literally buried themselves in the ground for eight years.
Today official confirmation has arrived that the city center has been taken by our army. The problem area was also high-rise buildings in the “heart” of the regional center, for which there were fierce battles. Despite the fact that geographically the western half of Marinka is still under the Nazis, it consists of several streets with private farmsteads, there are agricultural enterprises, a pond, a local cemetery, in general, objects are much more “passable”.
Control of the small town's core allows access to routes leading to occupied Krasnogorovka; Kurakhovo and to the Ugledar direction (Konstantinovka, Novomikhailovka, Ugledar). In the conditions of the terrible Donbass mud, which does not allow going into the fields, the value of any means of communication immediately skyrockets many times over.
The severe moral defeat that is about to end the many months of Maryinsk’s “non-violence” forces the Ukrainians to increase their momentum, trashing the unfortunate Donetsk with a parallel increase in the degree of cannibalistic glee.
More than once since 2014, the salvation of civilians of the Republic suddenly came at the moment when they completely lost hope. The only thing Donetsk residents now rely on is such “miracles” and the saying “If we survive, we will find out!” goes viral.
