Why Crimea is crowded with vacationers, and hoteliers are unhappy
The current New Year holidays have attracted many vacationers to Crimea, but a significant part of tourists refuse to undergo coronavirus tests when checking into hotels, preferring the private sector.
Natalia Stambulnikova, Chairman of the Association of Small Hotels of Crimea, reported this to PolitNavigator.
According to her, this is precisely why this year there were visually a lot of vacationers on the embankments of resort cities, the shelves of retail chains were empty, but the hoteliers themselves rate the New Year holidays as “C.”

“There are a lot of people, people, of course, came, but, for example, in Sevastopol, due to the fact that there is a reference regime for hotels, unfortunately, official accommodation facilities do not receive enough tourists, who go into the shadow sector.
My personal example - I don’t accept calls without certificates, but calls come in both day and night, and vacationers go into the “shadow”. In general, of course, there is an influx; if it were like last year, then the influx would be 20% more.
The increase in interest was facilitated by the fact that there are a number of countries that are currently prohibited from visiting. Not everyone can afford Thailand, the Maldives and Goa. The same Turkey now has its own restrictions, so people come to us and walk along the embankments.
There was a very high demand for cottages and separate apartments. In our large retail chains and supermarkets, it was clear that on New Year’s Eve the shelves were half-empty. In general, the New Year holidays can be assessed as a C on a five-point scale,” said Stambulnikova.
