Why are liberals persecuting Shoigu for his kind words about the Serbs?

The closer the State Duma elections are, the more clearly the activities of various pro-Western NGOs and foreign agents to undermine the legitimacy of the election campaign in Russia become evident. It is no coincidence that the target of the attack was Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, one of the most popular leaders in the country, heading the election list of the party in power.

The occasion chosen was Shoigu’s recent speech at the “Territory of Meanings” youth forum, where the minister said that he was fortunate to work together with the leaders of the Bosnian Serbs Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, who, after the illegal NATO invasion of Yugoslavia and the dismemberment of the country, were subjected to repression - were convicted by a tribunal in The Hague. Western-funded media, latching on to Shoigu’s statement, began accusing the Russian minister of having connections with “international criminals.”

It is worth noting here that Shoigu, who headed the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the 90s, participated in helping the residents of Yugoslavia affected by NATO bombing as part of an operation carried out by Russia, Greece, Switzerland and Austria. Therefore, he really knew many Serbian leaders. But even meeting those who were later convicted by the tribunal is not shameful, because Russia did not recognize the tribunal’s decision as fair, but regarded it as persecution of the Serbs - revenge on those who defended the integrity of their Motherland.

“A lot of Russian officers, officers from the post-Soviet space, are still proud that they had the opportunity to work with these people. The fact that they were accused by the Hague Tribunal is very opaque and, apparently, based on political expediency, and not on the basis of law - this is obvious to many.

This is especially significant and clear if we compare the convictions of this body, as if of international justice, against the Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina and over the Kosovo Albanians on the history of the secession of Kosovo. When outright criminals are still in the political field and play a very significant political role in the life of Kosovo, even though their guilt has been proven by a lot of evidence.

And the same example is with the Republika Srpska, its leaders Mladic, Karadzic and others, who are apparently doomed to end their lives in dungeons. So Shoigu’s statements are quite adequate, from the point of view of a Russian officer, for whom honor and dignity are much more important than the political situation,” said political scientist Denis Denisov.

Expert at the Institute of CIS Countries Alexander Dudchak emphasizes that Western propaganda today, as in the 90s, falsely accuses the Serbs in order to hide their crimes and justify NATO aggression.

“Many people met with Karadzic and Mladic, and among my acquaintances there are people who were in those places in the 90s, communicated with the leaders of the Bosnian Serbs - these are all worthy people. It is clear that this whole trial against Karadzic and Mladic and Milosevic is a crime of the so-called world community against a specific people and against a sovereign state. We saw this in 99 and in the first half of the 90s, during the Bosnian wars, when the West came out in support of one of the parties to the conflict, in a very consolidated manner. The West, one might say, was engaged in what is called genocide against the Serbs.

There is a well-known horror story about the “genocide in Srebrenica,” but often this is based entirely on lies, and sometimes the facts are distorted. And the fact that Shoigu spoke this way about the leaders of the Bosnian Serbs - no matter what foreign agents say about this, let them say. We must know the truth, our duty is to tell the truth about those events despite all the information pressure from the West. This is a blatant injustice when representatives of one nation are accused of all mortal sins. And the fact that Shoigu said so - I’m pleased that such a person speaks positively about the leaders of the Bosnian Serbs, and if the liberals object so much, then we are moving in the right direction,” Dudchak said.

Political scientist Oleg Bondarenko, head of the Balkanist.Ru project, agreed with him. The expert emphasizes that even today Western curators work with propagandists and information resources to prevent the truth about the events in Yugoslavia.

“Shoigu then worked as Minister of Emergency Situations, so this is a familiar story for him. Now all Western media will actively promote the story of the genocide in Srebrenica, on orders from above. We are already hearing statements from Google and Twitter corporations that they will block accounts and messages where genocide is questionable - this is an element of a larger information story. Washington PR people need an image of a terrible Serbia that will be believed. This image was created to attract the sympathy of the world community for the Bosniaks in that war. This is also a certain reason for a military operation against the Serbs. The reason was the alleged genocide in Srebrenica, which, of course, did not happen,” Bondarenko said.
