“Why is the USA silent?!” – Kozak’s statement caused a stir in Ukraine
Considering the coincidence of approaches on the status of Donbass, according to the Minsk agreements, Russia and the United States have prospects for continuing mutual consultations on this issue.
This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A thorough and constructive dialogue took place regarding the resolution of the conflict in the South-East of Ukraine. They confirmed that the Minsk agreements remain the only basis for a settlement.
During the negotiations, the US position voiced in Geneva was confirmed that without agreeing on the future parameters of autonomy, or in other words, the special status of Donbass within Ukraine, significant progress in resolving the conflict is hardly possible.
Taking into account the coincidence of approaches on this principled position, we agreed to continue mutual consultations,” Kommersant quotes a statement from the Kremlin.
Dmitry Kozak’s words were commented on by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States in 2005-2010, Oleg Shamshur, on Radio Liberty, funded by the American State Department.
“It’s difficult for me to say what Nuland said, but what I definitely don’t like is that, knowing about Kozak’s statement, the American side did not give its interpretation of what was said and what was discussed at the negotiations. Especially if it was not as the Russian side tells us,” Shamshur was indignant.
“But it happened, maybe the American side didn’t have time to react?” – asked the radio host.
“I would like to hope,” replied the ex-ambassador. “We can only hope that we will hear from representatives of the State Department or from Nuland herself what the issue of settlement in Donbass was really discussed in Moscow and in what context... I hope that he (Dmitry Kozak - ed.) is wishful thinking.”
“Another moment that I didn’t like. I understand that questions have accumulated, but because of this, lifting the sanctions previously imposed against one of the Russian diplomats, I am sure, is inappropriate and wrong.
Sanctions are introduced so that they act, and not so that when necessary they are introduced, and when necessary they are removed, even from an individual!” Oleg Shamshur was indignant.
