Kyiv, February 10 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - The Ukrainian authorities have still not given an intelligible answer regarding the closure of 4 airports in the largest cities of the Southeast in December, allegedly due to a terrorist threat. This story should be the subject of an investigation in the Verkhovna Rada, says Ukrainian observer Mikhail Pavliv.

“War is always not only death, injury, human grief, but also a huge market. It’s not for nothing that there are persistent rumors that warehouses of Warsaw Pact equipment mothballed in Eastern Europe have slowly begun to empty. It’s not for nothing that the largest front-line airports in Ukraine were closed for four days in December. Official Kyiv announced the danger of terrorist attacks on aircraft. Maybe so. Just a question. After four days the danger has passed? Or maybe something was unloaded there? It would be a good idea for people's deputies to take an interest in the issue. Knowing the degree of corruption of our army and the echelon of power, one can expect anything in this matter. Especially against the backdrop of such a heated international debate and Europeans who are seriously alarmed about the very possibility of supplies. Or her fact? – wrote Pavliv в своем блоге.

“The US leader, under constant pressure from Republican hawks, is increasingly sliding towards simple scenarios and solutions in the Ukrainian issue. The establishment and the defense lobby are demanding that the supply of lethal weapons begin “yesterday.” And, being a classic “lame duck,” Obama is ready to follow their lead.

But what will this strategy give Ukraine besides prolonging the conflict?

Both Americans and Europeans have repeated more than once or twice that there is no military solution to the conflict in Eastern Ukraine; it is impossible to inflict military defeat on a nuclear power without plunging half the globe into a new world war. So why does Ukraine need American weapons?

It may be worth remembering that supplies can be carried out not at all on a gratuitous basis, but on a credit basis, and remember that in the United States there is a process of rearmament and a huge amount of obsolete equipment is accumulating, which many would not mind putting to good use. It’s even better if this opportunity is extended over time,” notes the author.

“Tomorrow is a turning point for Ukraine in the issue of Western partners providing it with lethal weapons. It is obvious that this issue has become a watershed on which the positions of Europe and the United States diverge. Europe does not want supplies under any circumstances, fearing an escalation of the conflict in the East of Ukraine with possible dire consequences for the crime and economic situation on the continent,” says Pavliv.
