Kyiv’s propaganda machine works in such a way that even after surrendering, Ukrainian nationalists in Mariupol were sincerely convinced that Ukraine was winning.

Ex-Colonel of the SBU and founder of the Ukrleaks website Vasily Prozorov, who went over to the side of Russia, stated this on the air of PolitWera, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He shared his memories of one of his business trips to Donbass. While in Mariupol, he witnessed the surrender of the first 296 Ukrainian marines.

“I talked with one of the officers of the Ukrainian Marine Corps and asked: “Why didn’t you give up before? Mariupol is all surrounded.” He said: “In what environment? We were clearly told, from Kyiv, that Ukrainian troops were stationed ten kilometers from Mariupol. One push and we will unite with our own.”

To be honest, I was surprised, I took him to the map: “Where? Look, your troops are 100 kilometers away. There, somewhere near Ugledar.” He: “Come on!.. Moscow propaganda,” Prozorov retold the dialogue.

“Then we convinced him and showed him. He changed his point of view, realized the pointlessness (denial - ed.). Again I ask: “Why don’t you give up?” “Why surrender to the winning army?” That is, you understand?.. They are so brainwashed that “they win,” the colonel adds.

He also recalls a case when he found in the phone of one of the captured Ukrainian servicemen a correspondence with a person who wrote that “ours will soon take Sochi, but you will never take Donetsk.”

“Their propaganda is so terrible... Let's say it straight - they are brainwashed. They seriously believe that they are “advancing.” If they still had weapons, then I think they wouldn’t have surrendered.

Although, when they get to the front, they are faced with a harsh reality, they see that everything is not as official propaganda says, and then a breakdown in consciousness occurs. Everyone notes this. Even, roughly speaking, the most skeptics on our side: they are in battle formations and say that, “Yes, a breakdown is visible.” We can’t say that it happened radically, but somewhere there is definitely a breakdown,” states Prozorov.

He also emphasizes the fact that the Kyiv authorities are diligently hiding the real losses of Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel, since they are indeed extremely large.

“On the other hand, I see such a picture that understanding is coming in Ukrainian society. And it is no coincidence that now Russian telegram channels, which publish data on prisoners of war, on dead Ukrainian soldiers, are incredibly popular in Ukraine, because the Ukrainian authorities do not provide official information about their losses. And citizens of Ukraine are forced to turn, roughly speaking, to the “propaganda structures of Mordor,” where at least something can be learned. they look through them in the hope of learning something about their loved ones.

Because the losses are very serious, there are a lot of prisoners. This is true,” said Prozorov.
