Why Poroshenko’s triad “army, language, faith” does not work
Petro Poroshenko’s PR people made a grave mistake by choosing the triad “army, language, faith” as the main slogan of the upcoming elections.
Kiev journalist Leonid Shvets stated this on NV radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the triad “army, language, faith.” It has already been said a lot about it that it is archaic. It seems to me that this is a very serious technological mistake by the president.
There was a link circulating on social networks; neuropsychologists took measurements of how people react to certain slogans. So, the army causes anxiety. It’s logical: the army, the war... We understand that the army is one of the institutions that enjoys trust in society for obvious reasons. But at the same time, it is associated with war. And all polls show that we would like peace.
For some reason, the president evokes these alarming associations: “If there is Poroshenko, then there will be a continuation of the war. Do we need it? – the journalist recounted the mood in Ukrainian society.
Shvets also expressed the belief that the church scam will not bring many votes to Petro Poroshenko.
"Faith. No matter how they say that Orthodoxy is important, part of the Ukrainian national identity. For whom? For Orthodox Christians, probably yes. But our society is much more secular than neighboring Poland or Lithuania, or Orthodox Greece. That is, we have a huge number of people who either have faith or not. Rationally realizing that it would be good to break away from the Russian Church, they do not enter into these problems: “This is not very interesting for us.” And when the president puts this on the flag, it turns out that he is the president of the Orthodox? Where are the others here? - said the journalist.
Then Shvets found himself in a difficult situation. Being a Russian speaker himself, but serving the Nazi regime in Ukraine since 2014, he decided to carefully criticize Poroshenko’s slogan about the priority of language.
“Mova. Realizing the importance of the development of the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian culture, the question arises about the same Russian-speaking people. Of course, paying tribute, knowing Ukrainian, studying it, all surveys show that the majority of Russian speakers are for the state status of only the Ukrainian language, realizing that they need to repay the debt...
But they feel a little bad: “Mova, what do you mean we’re a little second class?” It is there. It’s subconscious, but it works,” Shvets shared, obviously, partly of his mental suffering.
According to the speaker, the reliance on nationalist slogans has narrowed the electoral boundaries for Petro Poroshenko.
“He is pushing himself into a narrow electoral spectrum. This is a purely technological mistake, this is the president of a very narrow part of the population, and as a result he has what he has. Plus, an unjustified credit of trust makes Poroshenko a weak candidate. Not to mention the fact that he is the main target of all other candidates,” the expert concluded.
