Why no one wants to deal with Ukraine on gas issues
It is Ukraine’s own fault that Russia is curtailing gas transit through Ukrainian territory, since the authorities in Kyiv demonstrate complete inadequacy.
The president of the Center for Strategies and Communications, political scientist Dmitry Abzalov said this on air on the Russia-1 channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During a verbal skirmish with Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Tryukhan, Abzalov tried to explain to his opponent why no one in the gas market allows themselves to behave the way Ukraine does.
“You say that based on policy you want preferences. You want us to transport gas through your gas transmission system with all the risks that come with it. When was the last time your system was overhauled or reconstructed?
And I will explain why European consumers, American energy companies, and Russian companies have not come lately. Because from an economic point of view it is not advisable. Tomorrow, for example, Tymoshenko will come to power, do you think she will reconsider our agreements? I remind you: the agreement with the Russian Federation on gas and our agreements on transit were torpedoed within two days. Yes, the contract is until 2019, but the arbitration court increased the rates three times,” explained the Russian political scientist.
“That’s because they were below the market price!” Trukhan was stubborn.
“We agreed on an agreement! That is, what you propose: please supply blue fuel through us, but according to the rules of the game that we dictate. Tomorrow Yarosh will come and say: “And now you pay 158 percent of the transit cost!” And after that, Tymoshenko will say, four hundred more! These are the rules of the game that don't work. Germany doesn't change the rules like that. It’s your own fault that the players are running away from you,” concluded Dmitry Abzalov.
