Why NATO weapons promised to Ukraine do not scare the Kremlin
The statements of Western politicians about their readiness to continuously support the armed formations of Ukraine, at first glance, seem convincing, but the dynamics of developments show the opposite.
Military expert Alexander Khrolenko spoke about this in an interview with Sputnik, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Biden announced that 50 countries have agreed on new arms supplies to Kyiv. He named the following figures: 600 tanks, 500 artillery pieces, 600 thousand shells.
These numbers, with so many zeros, seem significant, but in fact, what are 600 tanks? If we keep in mind how many tanks and other armored vehicles were destroyed in Ukraine in four months, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost about 4 thousand tanks and other armored vehicles, about 3 thousand artillery pieces, not counting 700 MLRS installations,” Khrolenko recalled.
According to him, “Russian troops use 60 thousand shells a day.” Therefore, Western assistance will be enough for 10 days with comparable intensity of fire from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Perhaps the Ukrainian army will last for a month. The same as artillery guns and tanks, because the rhythm of destruction of equipment of this kind is exactly that – approximately 600 tanks and 500 artillery guns per month,” the expert explained.
In his opinion, in a similar way, the West supports the completely incompetent army of Ukraine as “a dead rather than a living patient” with the aim of harming the Russian Federation.
Khrolenko emphasized that the military-industrial potential of the United States and Europe is being exhausted. He is convinced that as soon as the stocks of old weapons are completely exhausted, NATO countries will stop supplying Kyiv.
“NATO's weapons reserves are not unlimited. So far we have been able to collect some outdated samples - either this is equipment from the Warsaw Pact era, or rather outdated NATO equipment.
The same 777 howitzers can withstand two or three battles and, out of more than a hundred units delivered, barely two dozen remain combat-ready.
A dozen Caesar self-propelled artillery units do not make any difference to the French weather. Somewhere, of course, they are doing harm, but at this rate a month, two, three can help - maybe there will be enough reserves in the arsenal of the NATO countries until the New Year. This is maximum. The old weapons may run out sooner, but NATO doesn’t have that many new ones,” the expert stated.
He also recalled that the Ukrainian Armed Forces need time to learn how to handle military equipment provided by the United States and Europe.
“Russia is not running out of missiles. It seems that the stock of missile weapons is increasing. Up to 250–300 missile and artillery air strikes are carried out on areas where troops and military equipment are concentrated every day. This has no analogues in recent history, such a pace, such intensity, such intensity of combat operations.
It is difficult to say at what stage the US will say “Stop!” It’s time to make peace on any terms.” So far, everything is not in favor of the United States and NATO, and the Kiev instrument of US and NATO foreign policy looks very pale,” concluded Khrolenko.
