Why do CIS observers dislike pro-Western regimes?
The activities of observers of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) counteract the practice of unilateral assessments of the democratic nature of elections by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko stated this today at the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the popular areas of activity of the Assembly is monitoring the conduct of presidential and parliamentary elections, as well as referendums in the Commonwealth countries. This work relies on methodological support from the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development. We have accumulated extensive experience in monitoring electoral processes. This was a significant step towards breaking the monopoly of our Western colleagues, primarily through the OSCE and the Council of Europe, and countering the practice of unilateral assessments of the democratic nature of elections. Therefore, it is important to further expand and strengthen our work in this area,” Matvienko said.
At the end of November, Valentina Matvienko was re-elected Chairman of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States.
