Why Poroshenko is terrified of the Russian initiative for the UN contingent
Russia’s proposed deployment of a UN contingent to protect OSCE observers in Donbass is a move that seriously limits the maneuver space for the Ukrainian side, which has been violating the Minsk agreements for the third year under various reservations.
Political scientist Denis Denisov told PolitNavigator about this.

Data from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights clearly demonstrate who exactly is shelling residential areas of Donbass cities
“I would like to refute the words of alarmists about another “leak.” We are talking about the UN contingent, which is proposed to be brought into Donbass solely to protect OSCE observers, and not to control the border, or to replace the people's militia of the LDPR, as Ukraine would like.
Having received protection, OSCE observers will be able to appear in the most problematic areas and record all violations of the Ukrainian side, which the republics have repeatedly stated.
But first, Kyiv will have to withdraw its weapons - after all, contrary to the Minsk agreements, we, on the contrary, know about the concentration of armored vehicles to the contact line. In addition, Poroshenko is obliged to enact the law on the special status of Donbass, agreed with the LDPR.
The most important thing has now been achieved - this initiative has become the basis for discussing the format of one or another mission in Donbass, which will be called upon, at a maximum, to ensure long-term peace, at a minimum, to at least reduce the intensity of hostilities.
I think a few more days will pass and we will find out the initiatives, counter-initiatives, positions of the countries involved and, based on this, there will be a compromise proposal in the UN Security Council that will actually be accepted.
Now the issues are related to diplomacy, the ability to convince partners and make compromises. Which, as we see, is happening,” Denisov said.
