Why Putin is waiting for autumn in Ukraine
Russia has postponed the resolution of the Ukrainian issue until the end of 2019. This is due to the elections in Ukraine and the formation of new government bodies, political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said on the Topinform Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, today the issue of Ukraine is far from first on the Russian agenda.
“In Russia today, the domestic political agenda and the foreign policy agenda are dominant, but not the Ukrainian issue. The issue of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, the issue of Syria and the Middle East, the issue of Nord Stream. These are probably key things for Russian politics today.
The Ukrainian issue remains important, but it is frozen, and decisions on it are frozen until the end of the election cycle in Ukraine. At least, probably, until the late autumn-winter of 2019, when parliamentary elections will be held, and when a new coalition and a new government will be formed in Ukraine,” Bortnyk said.
As PolitNavigator reported, at the recent Valdai Club, Vladimir Putin said that Russia expects the arrival of a new leadership of Ukraine, which could mend the damaged relations between the two countries.
