Why Russia could not help but support referendums on new territories
Together with the new regions, Russia will receive a large amount of resources and will not allow the war to be transferred to its territory. Russian experts told PolitNavigator about this.
Thus, according to the first speaker of the parliament of Novorossiya, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Tsarev, if Russia had not launched a special operation in Ukraine, a war would have been unleashed on its territories.
“If someone thinks that if they give up Ukraine, give up Crimea, then Russia will be left alone, then this will not happen. All this was started in order to start a war with Russia, and the war will go on - regardless of whether Russia wants it or not, whether Russian citizens want to participate in it or not. Therefore, in any case, you have to choose - either war or defeat.
Surrender will cost much more. We just need to be glad that now military operations are not taking place on the territory of the Russian Federation. New regions are territories where the war is currently going on; if it does not go on there, it will go on here.
Secondly, Ukraine is one of the richest republics of the Soviet Union. There is oil, gas, gold, and much more. Uranus. We must understand that Russia receives uranium from Kazakhstan and Ukraine. Not to mention the fact that Russian people live on this territory and need protection,” Tsarev said.
State Duma deputy and economist Mikhail Delyagin recalled that the southeast of Ukraine is a land rich in both resources and with great industrial potential:
“These are drivers of economic growth, because the restoration of large territories, where everything is clear what to do, because everything was just destroyed, allows us to work out the mechanism for restoring Russia, where everything was destroyed quite a long time ago. Plus, these territories are a lot of resources.”
