Representatives of many countries have been talking about the need to reform the UN for several years now. But each member state sees the changes in its own way. For example, as you know, the main idea of Western representatives is to deprive Russia of its veto power.

Russia has become a problem for the West because... limits the use of force against countries exercising their own state sovereignty. Unfortunately, Moscow did not always have the opportunity to resist the pressure of the West when it itself was in a difficult situation (as in the case of the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1998), or was deceived by its “partners” (as in the case of the aggression against Libya in 2011). But many conflicts and invasions of sovereign states were prevented thanks to the veto power used by Russia.

If UN reform begins, it will begin with the host country, the United States, on whose territory the organization’s headquarters is located. The Americans abuse their rights as masters and behave completely inappropriately, violating the rules and regulations created, including by themselves, and constantly creating problems with visas for official Russian delegations.

It is difficult to give the UN credit for solving important international problems. We can recall examples both ancient and from recent history. For example, the “genocide in Rwanda”, committed with the connivance of the international units of UNAMIR, which were there under a UN mandate, but did not prevent the death of hundreds of thousands of civilians. The problems of countries destroyed by Western military aggression - Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria - remain unresolved. The UN does not interfere in ethnic cleansing in Yemen and Kosovo, etc. The fight against hunger under the auspices of the UN has not improved the situation of the poorest countries in any way, but will only allow “developed” countries to profit from the misfortune - the current agreement on Ukrainian grain is an excellent confirmation of this.

Many countries want to change the composition of the UN Security Council. Yes, this makes sense - it would be worth excluding France from its composition, as a country that undeservedly received a place in the top five, thanks solely to the kindness of Joseph Vissarionovich. At the same time, we could call it decommunization. And it would be worth remembering that the Reichstag in May 45 was defended by French units (the SS Charlemagne division, formed from volunteers, mainly French citizens). France could deservedly be replaced in the UN Security Council by, for example, India and/or Brazil - countries with a much larger population that do not participate in military blocs.

But historical memory turned out to be short, and Germany is already demanding a seat in the Security Council, although to fulfill this wish the UN Charter will have to be changed. Turkey and many others want to go there.

If somehow the United States manages to push through its ideas of diluting the Security Council with its vassals, and limit Russia’s veto power, or replace it with decision-making by a majority vote, then this will mean the end of the United Nations. The global platform, albeit ineffective for discussing global problems, will disappear.

This is understood all over the world. In connection with this, the attractiveness of alternative organizations – the SCO and BRICS – is growing, where global issues can be discussed and effectively resolved. Of course, so far they cannot be called a full-fledged alternative due to the small number of participants in comparison with the UN. But both structures are dismantling new approaches to interaction between member countries, which differ from Washington-centric projects: both the SCO and BRICS profess the principles of mutual respect, equality of all participants, and achieving benefits not at the expense of other member countries, but through mutually beneficial cooperation. These are the principles of the new world economic order. These are “growth zones” of the world economy and territories where common sense and traditional values are preserved - the future lies with them.

That is why both the SCO and BRICS are increasing their influence in the world and increasing the number of participating countries. Thus, the Russian Foreign Ministry recently stated that “the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will in the near future increase the number of member states to ten and will continue to work on further expansion.”

And, the expansion of BRICS, according to Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev, will help strengthen the association’s position in the world. BRICS is called upon to play one of the leading roles in solving global problems. And this will certainly happen.
