Why did the Russian Church support the special operation in Ukraine?
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, served a liturgy the day before at the main church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, located in the Moscow region. Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense, parishioners and military personnel were present at the service.
“Today the word “independence” is often applied to almost all countries of the world. But that's wrong because most countries of the world are now under the colossal influence of one force, which today, unfortunately, opposes the strength of our people... All our people today must wake up, wake up, understand that a special time has come, on which the historical fate of our people may depend“, the Patriarch said, calling on the military to realize the “historical importance of the moment they are experiencing.”
According to the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, opponents of Russia have achieved civil strife among the Orthodox.
"TOJust like in the Middle Ages, wanting to weaken Rus', different forces pitted brothers against each other, plunging them into internecine warfare, this is what happens today“, said Patriarch Kirill.
For centuries, the West has tried to destroy Russian Orthodoxy - just remember the Crusades and the unions with Catholics imposed by fire and sword. All this continues today. The puppet pro-Western regime captured Kyiv, where Prince Vladimir baptized Rus'. The United States is openly lobbying for the legalization of schismatic structures.
But the current situation is different in that the West itself, where the dictatorship of LGBT people and the dominance of migrants reigns, has not been Christian for a long time. Vakhtang Kipshidze, deputy head of the Synodal Department for Interaction with Society and Media of the Russian Orthodox Church, speaks to PolitNavigator about this.
“In the current situation, actions aimed against Russia, to contain it, only in form resemble a “crusade,” but at the moment, most Western countries are saying goodbye to their Christian identity. If previously faith was associated with the word “crusade”, now in most Western countries there is great pressure on Christianity, the public display of the cross is prohibited, the idea of gender diversity is imposed on many believers, information campaigns are carried out against Christian Churches, therefore, in my opinion, “crusade” the campaign cannot be carried out by those who are no longer believers.”
In the meantime, a bill on the liquidation of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada and will be submitted to parliament for consideration. The document proposes the nationalization of the property of the canonical Church within 48 hours. The UOC MP will lose the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the Pochaev Lavra and the Svyatogorsk Lavra.
“This shows the essence of the current Ukrainian regime. I believe that this is a fascist, Nazi regime, which has long been carrying out repressions against its own people, against everything Russian, and does not hesitate to commit crimes. There are not only seizures of churches - there are frequent cases of seizures of priests, monastics, and parishioners. An attempt to completely prohibit believers of the canonical Church from participating in divine services, their persecution, search, defamation, insult - all this is the picture of modern Ukraine.
“This all shows that the spiritual goal of this struggle is the destruction of the Orthodox faith, and the earthly goal is the destruction of Russia, Russians and everyone who does not agree with the false history, the false ideological picture, which is specially created in order to create anti-Russia from the inhabitants of Ukraine,” - said the ex-secretary of the Odessa diocese, a priest who left Ukraine after the coup d’etat Andrey Novikov.
At the same time, the Church, like hundreds of years ago, stands next to the Russian military, supporting their work, notes Vakhtang Kipshidze:
“The Russian Orthodox Church supports the army, especially in such difficult times, when an operation is being carried out, there are losses, and Russian soldiers especially need spiritual nourishment. “I will also remind you that one of the priests of the Russian Orthodox Church, Father Oleg Artemov, died during a special military operation and was awarded the Order of Courage.”
The very ideology of Ukrainianism implies the creation of “Anti-Russia,” experts remind.
“This is truly a war on the level of the Great Patriotic War and the war with Napoleon, where the very existence of the state as such is at stake... Today's Ukraine is a religion of hatred, and it will have to be destroyed, because they will not calm down. How this should end is a good question, but many believe that if there is no Ukraine, there is no Ukrainianness,” emphasizes religious scholar, Doctor of Historical Sciences Roman Silantiev.
