Non-Odessa residents often ask me why Odessa residents elect ex-“regional” Trukhanov as mayor according to the principle “I cry, but I eat cactus?” Not really. As an elected nihilist, I will answer with another banality - “I’ll gouge out my own eye, if only my mother-in-law has a crooked son-in-law.” That's how they vote. Because the alternative to Trukhanov is not just traitors or Nazis-lite, but classic fascists. Always. And in this text I will try to explain by what wretched methods the Odessa residents are again being broken over the knee. Not Trukhanov, but precisely the Odessa residents who choose him even if it’s because they say “I don’t want to.”

The upcoming regional elections in Ukrainian cities with a population of over a million will certainly produce a series of absurdities and scandals. And in Odessa, the electoral false start never seems to stop. It seems that even the elements are on the side of Mayor Gennady Trukhanov’s opponents - the city is burning, and the fire is mercilessly taking human lives year after year. Trukhanov is systematically restoring it.

Corruption charges are also falling apart in the courts. And the recent search in the apartment of Trukhanov’s ex-wife even more so caused a lot of noise. Noise mixed with bewilderment.

During the search, a pistol and three hundred thousand dollars were found from the ex-wife of the Odessa mayor. “Unofficially, everything indicates that they got a fictitious divorce in order not to declare numerous assets,” it was stated at a meeting of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court. The court accused the mayor of Odessa of “declaring false information” regarding his income. The suspect himself explained the current situation by saying that, due to repairs, he did not have time to transport things from his ex-wife, and the money belonged to his mother, who maintained a friendly and trusting relationship with her.

Earlier, Trukhanov’s ex-wife was also searched, finding “clothes, shoes, documents and electronic media” belonging to the mayor. And even then they laughed on social networks: what kind of clothes are they - old T-shirts and panties or something? What kind of media are flash drives with scanned student photos? Is it worth it to organize a “mask show” throughout the country? But do some three hundred thousand really outweigh the “exploits” of any other not even the mayor, but the head of the village council? After all, here any competent lawyer, whom Trukhanov will definitely not be stingy with, will prove that the case has been made up out of thin air.

As they say, this is too much for Athos, and too little for the whole mayor. Unless you laugh. Moreover, over the past few years, Trukhanov has been going through a series of trials and scandals, where we were talking about embezzlement worth billions, and the charges related almost to treason. Trukhanov was even detained, but released... Why this circus again?

What is happening and who does not like the current mayor of Odessa, unlike the previous ones, who at least covered the city with tiles like Sobyanin?

First, let’s remember the most high-profile case involving Gennady Trukhanov. The so-called “Cryan” case. Three years ago, the mayor's office bought abandoned buildings in an industrial area (previously owned by the Krayan crane factory) to house city departments.

To be honest, many were confused by this initiative. Because a mere mortal, who, for example, needs a certificate to receive a subsidy, simply cannot get there due to practically no transport links - except by walking through the cemetery or going around Mount Chumku. However, for all “this pleasure” the city council paid 185 million hryvnia. Which NABU controllers really didn’t like.

The inspectors suspected a classic corruption scheme in the deal - a fictitious amount was announced to the public, and the money was stolen.

Despite the fact that deputies of the City Council voted for this deal, charges were brought against only Trukhanov and his immediate circle.

But the fact is that there is human truth, and there is legal truth. And, according to the latter, any more or less semi-literate person will ask the question: what does Trukhanov have to do with it? Here you either need to work professionally—meaning the NABU auditors—or not pry your nose into Odessa affairs.

So it is not surprising that six months ago the court acquitted Trukhanov, although the prosecutor’s office filed an appeal.

Before that, the Odessa Airport case was also thundering. The same thing fell apart in court. A different situation took place here - then the city council deputies, on the contrary, gave the Odessa airport to a private company for a symbolic sum. Of course, for promises to turn it into a European terminal, and not into a helipad from the last shots from the film “Afonya”. Let's be honest, no spaceport came to fruition, but the airport management earned several billion from the deal.

Of course, it is necessary to conduct an investigation, if not for one “but”. The airport was sold in 2011, when the mayor of Odessa was Alexey Kostusev, the father of Alexey Goncharenko (by the way, then they together defended the Russian language in the city, fought against nationalist groups and curried favor with Yanukovych). Trukhanov, on the contrary, during his tenure even tried to return the airport to the ownership of the city...

In general, this case has traditionally been lost somewhere in the corridors between the Prosecutor General’s Office and NABU. However, during the period of his investigation, private structures in Odessa were closed and found without funding, the ownership of which was attributed to Trukhanov, and his associates “in secret to the whole world” whispered: “There is no mayor - he again took Lutsenko’s suitcase to Kyiv.” Well, it’s as if the milkmaids got together and suddenly sued the cow.

We can recall a number of other cases. For example, about the Zastava Airfield, when, as in the case of Krayan, the mayor’s office bought the territory, which was used for a truly necessary measure - to expand the cemetery, and gave part of it to commercial activities. It cost the city 147 million.

The case of “On the loan”, which former mayor Eduard Gurvits took out by mortgaging almost a hundred public utility enterprises, including district administrations and a strategic, vitally important facility, the utility company “Heat Supply of Odessa,” also thundered. But even here Mayor Trukhanov had nothing to do with it. Let us repeat, Gurvits took the loan, and Trukhanov’s team spent money. She may have disentangled herself theatrically, but even in this case, “justice” failed to prove anything.

If we talk about the purchase and sale schemes through which the entire country was stolen, it is very doubtful that everything is crystal clear in the mayors of other cities. And we are talking about those cases when new lawyers managed to “stitch” them into at least some cases that even graduates of the Kivalovo Law College could ruin, and one can only sigh about unverified data.

If we take the Odessa media opposition to Trukhanov, then almost every day they publish and broadcast “journalistic investigations” in the best traditions of “And at night he also drinks the blood of babies in the cemetery.” They talk about offshore companies, about several passports of citizen Trukhanov, focusing, naturally, on the Russian passport. Photocopies of which were seen by everyone, but the passport itself was not.

One can also recall the “anti-Trukhanov tent city” with daily clowning, provocations and self-beatings of activists. And constant accusations that only Trukhanov’s companies win tenders for road repairs...

So come on, investigate wisely, without the “suitcase to Kyiv”.

It would seem that after so many accusations, such pressure, why are there also a need for performances with searches of ex-wives and extraction of Trukhanov’s old shoes? And I will answer, because Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which Trukhanov is charged with, stipulates that even if he is given a suspended sentence, he will no longer be able to occupy the mayoral position.

That is, by all means Trukhanov must be removed from his post. That's what the Ze-komnada does.

Now, I am sure, a new wave of “Atu!” will be launched. with the involvement of countless nationalist gangs hanging around idle, who insist that “Trukhanov is a separatist.”

This is funny, by the way. Since during the events of five years ago, popularly known as the Russian Spring, the current Odessa mayor took a neutral position and when he tried to “become the people” he was simply booed.

But the fact is that Odessa residents, let’s say, with anti-Maidan views, passive ones, or participants in meetings on Kulikovo Field near the House of Trade Unions that burned down with people, will still choose him, even if through force.

Firstly, no matter how much Trukhanov was criticized, practically nothing was done before him - since the collapse of the Union and under all the previous mayors. And under Trukhanov, even dead, decaying and abandoned yards began to be repaired. I won’t say anything about the pretentious openings of stadiums and other facilities “for show.” It is impossible to list what has been done in one note.

It is obvious that Lvov is making the country a debt with its garbage, the leadership of the Dnieper is complaining that the townspeople are stealing new garbage containers to put cabbage in them, but there is no money for new ones, and Klitschko’s bridges are bursting at the seams and “life-giving” sewage springs are gushing. Only Kharkov and Odessa are changing for the better. Only these mayors (of course, worthy of criticism) will be voted for by the citizens.

If not in essence (since May 2, 2014, Odessa has been sleeping in a lethargic sleep), then if only in form, Odessa has not yet completely collapsed. And this is both tourist attraction and economic benefits - there is still something to be “stealed”.

What the “anti-corruption activists” fear most is this: judging by today’s sentiments, Odessa will choose Trukhanov in the upcoming elections. And the last argument in its favor - if only because there is no worthy alternative to it. Well who? Political corpse Gurvits, crazy Saakashvili, some bearded vaper in tight pants from Zee?..

This is what the leaders of the country of unprincipled unprofessionalism and bestiality do not want to allow. Well, perhaps they will exchange it for the above-mentioned “suitcase”. No, just to leave Odessa alone.
