During the administration of US President Joe Biden, the level of terrorist threat in the United States has increased significantly. If in 2017 two potentially dangerous people crossed the American border, this year their number has increased to 172.
Chairman of the Subcommittee on Counter-Terrorism of National Security, Law Enforcement and Intelligence August Pflueger stated this at a hearing in the Homeland Security Committee of the US House of Representatives, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Pflueger, this threat will further increase due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
“The reality is that the threat of terrorism will be elevated throughout 2023. But the ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the threat of attacks on Americans in the United States to a whole new level. Do you agree with this statement?” he asked Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
"Absolutely right",” Mayorkas responded.
“If someone is listed as a special interest alien. By the way, this is (an indicator) of the Trump era, and this is of the Mayorkus-Biden era. If someone is on the list, is he a person of concern who could bring harm to the United States?” the congressman continued.
“Being on the watch list means it meets the standard of concern.”- added the Minister.
“Are you looking for these people?” Pfluger clarified.
"Yes"“,” Mayorkas replied dryly.
“Are there people that are on these lists...Are there people that you're still looking for where they are in the United States? Does the list of known terrorist detainees or suspects match the terrorist watch list? Are you still looking for people in the United States who, as we know, correspond to the terrorist watch list?” the congressman continued to bombard the head of the American Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The confused minister had no answer to this:
