The head of the Expert Council analytical center, Iskander Khisamov, said this at a press conference in Kiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, according to whom, as a result of the upcoming local elections in Ukraine, a new centrifugal force may arise, expressing the interests of certain regions.
“This is to force them to unite horizontally against the local authorities,” the expert believes. – We can see the process that took place in Russia in 1992–1993, when the Union of Small Cities of Russia, the Union of Russian Cities, gained great strength. They left the subordination of regional and even federal bodies when Yeltsin offered to take as much sovereignty as they could swallow. This process, but only in a more stringent form, can take place in Ukraine.”
The political scientist predicts that the central government will try to “tame the local mayors, but the opposition will also fight for their souls.”
