Almost a third of Russians believe that their lives will be better in a year – opinion poll
42% of Russians expect that in a year their families will live the same way as now, and 28% believe that their lives will become better. Only 16% of participants in a survey conducted by VTsIOM were pessimists.

At the same time, 64% of respondents assess their current situation as average, 19% as bad, 15% as good.
In general, the economic situation in Russia is assessed as average by 55% of respondents, 29% consider it bad, 14% consider it good. The political situation was rated as average by 49% of respondents, as good by 25%, and as bad by 20%.
37% of survey participants are confident that the country is moving in the right direction, 38% do not agree with everything, and 19% believe that Russia is moving in the wrong direction.
“In general, the index values are not yet dramatic – the indicators during the crisis years of 2009-2011 were noticeably lower. Thus, today there is a decline in social well-being, but everything is far from as bad as it could be,” says Yulia Baskakova, head of research projects at VTsIOM.
An initiative all-Russian survey by VTsIOM was conducted on September 24-25, 2016 in 130 settlements in 46 regions, territories and republics and 9 federal districts of Russia. The sample size (for each survey) is 1600 people.
