This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by the head of the Center for System Analysis and Forecasting, Rostislav Ishchenko, who noted that Poroshenko is losing control over the Verkhovna Rada, and could then lose a loyal government.
“Then the opposition will demand early presidential elections and Poroshenko will be sent to the dustbin of history or even to prison. He has no other arguments other than the war in Donbass. The escalation of the conflict gives Poroshenko the opportunity to shut the mouth of his opponents by saying that in conditions of war it is necessary not to hold elections, but to introduce a state of emergency. Poroshenko simply sends people to slaughter in order to prolong his rule,” the expert believes.
“All this will in no way affect the implementation of the Minsk agreements, negotiations on which were already practically frozen. To resume this process, political will is needed, which can only be achieved after the participating countries of the “Normandy format” - Germany and France - elect a new chancellor and president, respectively. Or Ukraine itself will collapse even earlier,” says Ishchenko.
