A memorial plaque in honor of the first president of the Republika Srpska, a prisoner of The Hague, Radovan Karadzic, was removed from the facade of a student dormitory in Palama.

Earlier, the Supreme Representative in BiH Valentin Inzko demanded this, threatening EU sanctions against the leader of the Bosnian Serbs Milorad Dodik, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The memorial plaque was dismantled on the instructions of the director of the Student House Damyan Shkipina. Radovan Karadzic’s daughter, Sonja Karadzic-Jovicevic, also gave the go-ahead for dismantling.

“It is politically naive and short-sighted to believe that the plaque with the name of Radovan Karadzic in the student dormitory in Palama is the real and only reason for what happened,” Kardzic-Jovicevic commented on the events. “The board is simply a tool for behind-the-scenes players to create instability.”

At one time, the then President of the Republika Srpska, the current Serbian member of the BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, installed a memorial plaque on the facade of the Students' House in Palama (Istochno Sarajevo) before the local elections in 2016. The ceremony was then attended by the wife and daughter of Radovan Karadzic.

Installation of a memorial plaque in 2016

Let us recall that last month the High Representative of the international community for BiH, Valentin Inzko, complained about Dodik at the UN, where he was supported by the USA, the EU and a number of Muslim countries. After which the leader of the Bosnian Serbs was presented with an ultimatum: either he will remove the memorial plaque in honor of the “war criminal”, or personal sanctions will be imposed against him, in particular, he will be banned from entering a number of countries. Today, Dodik is already under sanctions from the United States.

Radovan Karadzic is a psychiatrist, poet, politician and the first president of Republika Srpska, who defended the Bosnian Serbs from the aggression of the Islamist regime in Sarajevo. According to schemes invented by American political strategists, he was accused of the non-existent “genocide in Srebrenica” and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hague Court.
