Under the roar of propaganda, Ukraine is trying to sell Europe its gas transportation system
Ukrainian and Russian propaganda create artificial tension around relations between the two countries in the gas sector, which is not related to real problems.
Energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “112”, commenting on the recent statement by Russian TV presenter Olga Skabeeva, who said that after the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Russia will “crash Ukraine.”
“Ukrainian and Russian television programs are different poles of the same goal - to raise the temperature in society without political and legal consequences. This one says “let’s destroy Ukraine,” and ours says: “If there is no transit, then Putin will attack.” Neither one nor the other has anything to do with objective reality, but is very well perceived by the patriotic public,” Zemlyansky said.
He considers the preservation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine to be a reality, “no matter how Russia scares us.”
“The question is volumes. They depend on what conditions we offer so that Europe does not later regret that it joined the consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transportation system. Now the regulatory part is not regulated, the technical part is in a deplorable state. The financial plan for Naftogaz after 2020 assumes zero transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. These are the things we need to do,” the expert noted.
