Chemical pollution near Kyiv. The Dnieper is under threat
In the Kyiv region, unknown persons threw about three thousand canisters with an unknown chemical substance into the Kozka River.
The incident occurred on the border of the villages of Blistavitsa and Lubyanka, where the Bucha River flows, the waters of which flow into the Dnieper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the deputy head of the presidium of the Ukrainian Society for Nature Conservation, Igor Artemenko, who participated in the cleanup, we are talking about sabotage.
“What we see today looks more like sabotage in relation not even to Bucha, but sabotage in relation to the city of Kyiv and the whole of Ukraine. Three quarters of the people of Ukraine drink water from the Dnieper River,” Artemenko said.
Secretary of the Buchansky City Council Taras Shapravsky emphasized that specialists took samples from canisters and river water, and the police opened a criminal case.
“Today, based on our application, the police department has opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 239 - this is precisely the pollution of land with water and chemicals, which creates a danger to the life and health of people and the environment. The pre-trial investigation continues, an examination of this chemical substance has already been scheduled, samples have been taken, we are waiting for the results of the examination,” Shapravsky said.
