An illegal radioactive waste dump was found near Kiev

The duty station of the Obukhovsky regional police department received information via special line “102” that in the village of Podgortsy there was a car with radioactive substances at a landfill.
The investigative and operational group of the police and rescuers of the State Emergency Situations Service, in particular, employees of the Radon unit, went to verify the information received. Arriving at the indicated location, law enforcement officers found a truck from which the driver unloaded four plastic bags of hazardous waste.
When examining this cargo for background radiation using a special device, it turned out that the radioactive radiation of the garbage was a hundred times higher than the permissible norm. Objects of radioactive radiation were seized and transferred to special storage in a special container.
According to preliminary data, the cargo was delivered from one of the capital's institutions.
