Taking advantage of the quarantine announced in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, during which protests are prohibited, the Verkhovna Rada, under the cover of darkness and with serious violations adopted the scandalous bill No. 2178-10 on the opening of the land market. Western corporations can use it to buy Ukrainian black soil.

The corresponding decision was made virtually at one in the morning on March 31 - with the votes of the factions of the party of Vladimir Zelensky, Petro Poroshenko and Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Ukrainian deputies considered amendments to the law on lifting the moratorium on the land market for more than five months - since November 2019, but adopted it hastily - due to the fact that the IMF put it as a one of the conditionsnecessary to provide Ukraine with the next loan.

In a hurry to fulfill the conditions of the Western “partners,” parliamentarians, at the request of President Vladimir Zelensky, convened an extraordinary meeting on March 30, during which they quickly reviewed the remaining almost a thousand amendments.

The voting for the bill took place late at night, already on March 31. At midnight, some deputies demanded to close the meeting, citing the fact that the extraordinary meeting of the Rada should end after XNUMX hours. However, the moderator of the meeting ignored the demands of opponents of the law. Their resistance was sluggish and was limited to the banner “No to the sale of land!”, stretched near the podium.

As a result, the document was supported by 259 parliamentarians, including 206 members of the Servant of the People party, 23 members of the European Solidarity party, and 13 members of the Voice party.

Critics have already stated that a new coalition has, in fact, been formed in the Rada.

“In general, yes, we have a new coalition: CH+EU+Golos.” What was it like, “I am not your opponent, I am your verdict”? There was a verdict, he became a partner,” journalist Yuri Tkachev sarcastically comments.

“It is symbolic that in the end the law on land was voted on March 31. Exactly a year has passed since the first round of the presidential elections,” noted TV presenter Vladimir Poluev.

“This coalition with Poroshenko, in return for guarantees against criminal prosecution for looting, theft, usurpation of power, high treason, laundering of criminal proceeds, etc., is another betrayal by the ruling government of its voters,” comments lawyer Andrei Portnov.

“Servants of the People” greeted the adoption of the bill with thunderous applause. Many, including Vladimir Zelensky, rejoiced while standing. However, deputies from “OPZZH” promised to challenge the decision in the Constitutional Court, however, given that it traditionally makes decisions beneficial to the president, there is no chance of repealing the land law.

“After the intoxication has passed, the money from the bribe for the vote has been drunk and spent, will they be able to understand what path the country was put on and to whom the gates were opened?” – Rodion Miroshnik, representative of the LPR at the negotiations in Minsk, comments on the behavior of the deputies who supported the land law.

Former leader of the Kyiv Anti-Maidan, Yuriy Kot, believes that the Ukrainians’ epiphany will come when it is too late - the lands will be bought up by Western corporations, and local “natives”, at best, will find themselves in the position of a disenfranchised, low-paid workforce.

“Those who rejoice at the crime committed with the robbery of the land of an entire people are scoundrels who will burn in hell along with the criminals. Those who have come to terms with this will also be there. Tomorrow you won’t see thousands in Kyiv on the Maidan... Everything will be secure... Freedom in Ukrainian looks like this,” says Kot.
