Under the guise of coronavirus, Ukrainian officials are laundering huge amounts of money
Ukrainian officials are massively stealing funds allocated to fight the coronavirus epidemic, as a result of which citizens of the “Independence” have to serve quarantine and be treated in old wards with appalling conditions.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko stated this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He published a video with a story from the infectious diseases department of a hospital in Dnepropetrovsk, where they are going to admit those sick with coronavirus. The video footage shows the appalling living conditions of the patients - no toilet, old mattresses, dirty bed linen, lack of drinking water and lighting.
“Full... luxury.” They put me in the infectious diseases department so that I could catch some other infection,” a quarantined Ukrainian commented on the hospital ward.
Alexey Zhuravko reported that the day before, 98 million hryvnia had been allocated for the modernization of this hospital, but local officials, instead of conscientiously fulfilling their duties, “cut up” the entire budget.
“For your attention, hospital number 21, also known as Mechnikova, in Dnepropetrovsk. Here Mayor Boris Filatov is going to treat coronavirus patients.
The city allocated 98 million hryvnia for the purchase of medical equipment, medicines and disinfectants. The tender was held without bidding and without announcing the cost for each item of equipment, since there is a high threat of the spread of coronavirus.
As they say, to whom is war, to whom mother is dear.
Friends, I think cases like those in Dnepropetrovsk are not isolated. Today, current officials have a chance, under the guise of an epidemic, to launder money normally.
But I am firmly convinced that sooner or later they will all choke on this money. You can’t make money so cynically from people’s grief,” the social activist concluded.
