New Maidan near the Verkhovna Rada: thousands of protesters and police (PHOTO)
Kyiv, December 23 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – In Kiev, near the Verkhovna Rada, a rally of many thousands is taking place against the reduction of social guarantees that the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk is trying to implement in the country’s budget for 2015 under the pretext of a lack of money in the treasury. Larger actions near parliament took place only in winter during the Maidan.

In front of the Verkhovna Rada, surrounded by a triple cordon of law enforcement officers in full uniform, lined up were teachers, pensioners, bank depositors, representatives of trade unions, and “AutoMaidanovites.” Representatives of the “Volya” party stand somewhat apart, with a few “Svoboda” members located next to them.
The rhetoric of the speeches, as well as the posters held by the protesters, is similar for everyone: “The IMF is not a decree for us,” “No to cutting social benefits,” etc. Credit Maidan participants and trade unions set up their stages for performances.
Some of the protesters, in particular representatives of Afghan organizations, moved from the Rada to the Cabinet of Ministers, where a rally is also taking place, the participants of which are holding Victory banners and flags with Soviet symbols.
As PolitNavigator reported, today The Verkhovna Rada must consider the draft state budget for 2015. The day before, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk made a statement that There are no plans yet to raise the retirement age or cancel scholarships.
