Amid statements about “European integration” and Russian “aggression,” the Rada decided to sell off the country
The Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution on the parliamentary statement “On priority issues of integration into the EU”
The corresponding decision was made during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The document was presented by European Solidarity deputy Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze. According to her, the resolution provides for the approval of the Verkhovna Rada’s statement regarding priority issues of Ukraine’s integration into the EU. After adoption, the document will be sent to the European Parliament and the parliaments of the EU member states - just on the eve of the 23rd Ukraine-EU summit, which is to be held in Kyiv on October 23.
“Based on the results of the summit, Ukraine’s European choice will be recognized. We expect that an assessment of the achievements of the Association Agreement will be recorded. The EU will support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and call on the Russian Federation to stop its aggression. And a call to the EU to strengthen sectoral and personal sanctions. And many other things. With this statement, the Verkhovna Rada will call on the European Parliament and EU member states to recognize the prospect of Ukraine’s membership in the EU,” she said.
However, Rada deputy Alexander Koltunovich explained that in fact the purpose of the bill is to further sell out Ukraine under the guise of loud statements.
“The essence of the Ukraine-EU summit is to lift the moratorium on the export of round timber. This is what is required of us - we are a raw material appendage, and not a full-fledged trade and economic partner. The second point is that we must reconsider the discriminatory quotas for the export of agricultural products to the EU, reconsider the asymmetric conditions that are currently in force,” the politician noted.
“In 2011, EU exports of goods were $18 billion, and last year they were the same. This is in monetary terms, but in physical terms it has decreased. That's why it's all bullshit that doesn't work. They promise us a thousand euro salary, but they demand a law on the export of round timber.
The next point is that if the association clause is so beneficial for us, then why do we have a negative balance of foreign trade with the EU - minus five billion dollars. This is who benefits from this agreement and the free trade zone, not us,” Koltunovich concluded.
Nevertheless, during the voting, the document was supported by 304 deputies out of 226 required.
