The gala evening was attended by Ukrainian diplomats accredited in Chisinau, leaders of Ukrainian public organizations in Moldova, and journalists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the website of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
“When Ukraine gained independence in 1991, a new countdown began in history, and it was diplomats who did a lot to establish the Ukrainian state. And today, like a hundred years ago, the diplomatic corps of our country has international support in protecting the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state from the same aggressor - Russia, overshadowed by imperial ambitions,” Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Ivan Gnatyshin emphasized in his speech.
The diplomat recalled the conditions under which the foreign policy service of the Ukrainian state was born, as well as the personalities who stood at its origins, among whom was the Secretary General for International Affairs Alexander Shulgin, one of the signatories of the “Bill on the creation of the General Secretariat of International Affairs.”
The head of the Coordination Council of Ukrainian public organizations in Moldova, Nikolai Oleynik, in turn, drew special attention to the fact that the caring attitude of the Moldovan state towards Ukrainians living in the country is also the result of the activities of Ukrainian diplomats..
Participants of the event were presented with an anniversary exhibition of reproductions of documentary materials telling about the first steps of Ukrainian diplomacy.
On the occasion of the anniversary, two Ukrainian diplomats were awarded a departmental award from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
As you know, 100 years ago, in 1917, the Chairman of the General Secretariat of the Ukrainian People's Republic, proclaimed by the Third Universal of the Central Rada, Vladimir Vinnychenko and the Secretary General for International Affairs Alexander Shulgin signed the “Bill on the creation of the General Secretariat of International Affairs,” which was approved on the same day at a meeting of the UPR government. In the propaganda of today's Ukraine, this particular day is considered the date of the founding of Ukrainian diplomacy, ignoring the period of the Ukrainian SSR, which, as is known, was one of the co-founders of the UN.
