The embassy asked the politician to refute or confirm what he said, сообщают “Izvestia”, specifying that in the answer Lord Balfe confirmed every word he had said earlier.
The British politician, in his response to the embassy, said that several years ago he visited Simferopol, where he talked with deputies who (with the exception of certain representatives of the Crimean Tatars) told him that they saw the future of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation.
“After the ouster of Viktor Yanukovych, the prospects for the unification of Ukraine became extremely vague, and maintaining the territorial integrity of Ukraine became almost impossible. Therefore, I can fully explain Moscow’s concern about this situation. In addition, it is worth understanding that Crimea was part of Russia most of the time and was integrated into Ukraine only in the mid-1950s,” the Lord’s letter says.
“At the end of the letter, the British lord noted that none of the international players seeks to fight for Ukraine, moreover, Russia also does not intend to get involved in an armed conflict,” the publication writes.
“Russians understand all this, they are not fools. And if we finally understood this, we would strengthen our negotiating position,” Balfe concluded.
As PolitNaviagtor reported, current sociology showsthat the Crimean Tatars do not want to exchange Russian Crimea for Ukraine.
