Podolyaka: For Kyiv, the explosion of the Kakhovka dam was just as unexpected
The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station will not in any way affect the likelihood of a Ukrainian counter-offensive; Kiev will only adjust its plans.
Military observer Yuri Podolyaka stated this on Channel One, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It’s not difficult to restore minefields, but it’s really very difficult to pass through swampy terrain with a tank, and again, establishing normal crossings is unrealistic. In fact, this is not part of the counteroffensive; moreover, according to the data that I have, for the enemy what happened came as much of a surprise as it did for us. And today the Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is meeting, and they will decide there, because the plans for the counteroffensive, due to many circumstances, will be seriously revised. ...
They will not be able to postpone it (counteroffensive - ed.), and in connection with this dam they are unlikely to be able to refer to it. Because in this case the offensive is going in a completely different direction, and is absolutely not tied to the dam. But it is obvious that the main attack could not be through the Kherson direction, it is unrealistic to attack there, so here, of course, the Zelensky regime will not be able to make excuses for the fact that the dam has collapsed and we will not attack.
This really was a surprise, because the whole morning they were in emergency mode, like taxis in Moscow, taking out their bridgeheads from the islands, which they so praised - islands that we did not defend. They equipped them, and this morning they spent the whole morning evacuating these bridgeheads,” Podolyaka said.
According to him, Kyiv periodically fired at the dam, knowing what it was doing, but right now it was not ready for such a development of events.
