Suspicious suicide of a relative of the “master of Moldova”
The brother-in-law (sister's husband) of the former "master of Moldova" oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, who fled to the United States, Yuri Lunkasu, shot himself on the evening of August 17.
Noi.md writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As the personal driver of the deceased, Boris Babin, testified, Lunkashu called him “to go for a ride and get some fresh air.” They set off along the Ialoveni-Durlesti highway. At some point, Lunkashu asked the driver to stop the car in a field and wrote a note that read: “I bought the white house in 2017, I was an investor.” Then he got out of the car and shot himself in the head with Astra pistol No. 85034, 6.35 caliber.
The name of Iurie Lunkasu is associated with a deal worth more than 154 million lei, as a result of which a Cypriot company acquired buildings in the perimeter of Timis and Bujorilor streets in Chisinau, owned by Plahotniuc. One of the buildings looks like the White House in Washington.
A member of the Moldovan parliament from the pro-European bloc ACUM, Dimitri Alaiba, called this suicide “suspicious.”
“This is suspiciously a suicide. Those who were close to the previous regime know very well that, no matter what, they are bandits. Maybe you were involved in more harmless schemes. If you're afraid you might be suicidal, start talking as soon as possible. If you don't trust our press or authorities, go to other countries. This is your main defense. Only by sending him to jail will you be safe. They are ready to do anything to survive,” Alaiba wrote on his Facebook page.
