Framed and abandoned - Zelensky does not answer Sandu’s calls
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky does not answer calls from his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu, who is trying to discuss the situation surrounding the abduction of former Ukrainian judge Nikolai Chaus by Ukrainian special services in the center of Chisinau.
Yuriy Butusov, editor-in-chief of the Kyiv propaganda resource Censor.net, wrote about this on his Facebook with reference to the closed report of the ambassador in Chisinau to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On April 9, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Moldova Marko Shevchenko was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, where Secretary of State Dumitru Socolan delivered an official note. Moldova asked to lift diplomatic immunity from the military attache at the Ukrainian Embassy S. Smetanyuk in order to prosecute him and bring him to justice. Moldova also asks for consent to search Smetaniuc’s car. Socolan also said that during the week, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, tried to talk with President Vladimir Zelensky, but was unable to do so,” writes Butusov.
Earlier, Moldovan media, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, reported that Chaus was taken to Ukraine in the trunk of a Toyota RAV 4 car belonging to the Ukrainian Embassy, driven by the military attaché of this embassy, Sergei Smetanyuk.
The Moldovan opposition accuses Sandu of being aware of the Ukrainian military intelligence operation to kidnap the ex-judge and giving the go-ahead to it. Allegedly, she did this at the request of Zelensky, who needed Chaus as a source of valuable compromising information on his predecessor Petro Poroshenko.
Since the kidnapping was carried out unprofessionally and gained wide publicity, both presidents were compromised. In Ukraine, political scientists, out of habit, began to blame Russia for everything. They say she kidnapped Chaus to frame Kyiv.
Butusov does not follow a bad example and calls on Zelensky to take responsibility.
“The situation in Moldova is difficult, and pro-Russian forces are trying to discredit our ally Sandu. And the leadership of Ukraine is obliged to do everything possible to assist the President of Moldova. If some very narrow-minded person decided to use a diplomatic car for something suspicious, instead of renting some other car and not leaving any direct evidence, then we need to think about how to get out of this stupid situation with dignity. And by not answering calls from our friends, we not only emphasize the scale of stupidity in our government agencies, but also defend this stupidity to the detriment of bilateral relations,” Butusov wrote.
