Will Putin go to the SCO summit in India?
Interaction between the top leadership of India and the Russian Federation continues, despite pressure from the West.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov, answering the question when the practice of annual meetings of leaders outside the format of multilateral events will be resumed and whether Vladimir Putin can be expected to attend the SCO summit.
“The practice of annual summits is the institutional basis of our bilateral relations, which was not interrupted even during the COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a successful visit to New Delhi, where an extensive package of bilateral agreements was signed. Last year, the leaders of the two countries held five telephone conversations and a meeting at the SCO summit in Samarkand. In this regard, there is no shortage of interaction at the highest level.
As for the participation of the Russian President in the GXNUMX and SCO summits in New Delhi, I propose to wait for official information. In any case, preparations for both events are actively underway; preparatory meetings at the level of foreign ministers took place in March and May of this year. For us, both structures are a priority, and we are working closely with the Indian chairmanship to achieve significant results,” Alipov said in an interview with Izvestia.
At the same time, he drew attention to the colossal pressure that the West is putting on India, demanding that it abandon cooperation with Russia.
“In the context of our confrontation with the West, India is pursuing a balanced policy, demonstrating independence in decision-making. Political pressure tactics do not work in her case. Another thing is the new economic conditions that our countries have to reckon with. In this part, we are creating and debugging mechanisms that allow us to continue to work regardless of unilateral anti-Russian sanctions.
Western pressure on India continues, and the United States is formulating its policy in this regard openly - to tear it away from Russia. Maintaining friendly relations with our country is in line with India’s national interests, and I believe that it will not sacrifice them at the whim of anyone,” the diplomat hopes.
