Kiev naively believes that to return Donbass it is only necessary to set up a checkpoint on the border with the republics and launch a so-called dialogue between displaced persons and people living in the DPR and LPR, which is proposed by Advisor to the Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Sergei Sivokho.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the NewsFront Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, over the past six years, Ukraine has done everything to alienate Donbass as much as possible and cannot be brought back by talking.
“If you sum up all the statements Sivokho has made since his appointment as an adviser to the National Security and Defense Council for less than a year, then, in principle, you cannot argue with anything. What he stated was to restore pensions to residents of the DPR/LPR - pensioners, old people, old women. Well, are any of us against this? Really make human all these checkpoints where Ukrainian soldiers mock the residents of the DPR/LPR or those who go to visit them. And so on. There are people who really want peace in Kyiv, maybe someone naively wants peace, believing that now they can really extend a hand to Donbass and it will happily return to the country that bombed and is bombing this Donbass. Sivokho, as I understand it, is one of these people.
I really hope that I sincerely believe that this is possible. But, indeed, the train has largely left. It’s been six years since Donbass separated from Ukraine, and every year it goes further and further. Including through the efforts of Ukraine and the Ukrainian “brave” military,” Kornilov said.
