The head of the Crimean Railway, Andrei Karakulkin, stated this at a meeting of the Public Expert Council of the all-Russian public movement “People's Front “For Russia,” Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.
According to the official, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation ordered to study the issue of organizing a railway connection along the Moscow-Simferopol route via the Kerch ferry crossing.
Let us recall that back in the 80s, trains were transported to Crimea through the Kerch Strait (for example, the Simferopol-Kislovodsk train - “Navigator”), but at the beginning of perestroika, passenger trains were sent to the peninsula through Ukraine.
According to Andrey Karakulkin, a trial run has already taken place. According to preliminary calculations, the ferry will be able to transport at least nine carriages with passengers.
Currently, ferries transport only freight trains to Crimea and back.
