Travel to Ukraine recognized as hazardous to health
A mother and child from Sevastopol fell ill with measles after a trip to Ukraine and Poland.
The chief specialist-expert of the territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor, Svetlana Solyanikova, spoke about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They fell ill after the trip and are being treated as inpatients. The penultimate case of measles was in Sevastopol in 2012,” she said.
According to her information, 35 cases of measles have been registered in the Republic of Crimea this year, and 2017 in 6.
Five medical teams went to the area where the family lives and to the school where the child is studying to vaccinate adults and children.
“12 thousand adults and 9 thousand children in Sevastopol are planned to be vaccinated against measles this year. The child population is 90% vaccinated against measles, the adult population is 62%. These are those who are subject to revaccination, new arrivals, and those who have not been vaccinated,” said the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Health Department, Sergei Gryga.
According to him, next year it is planned to vaccinate 24 thousand people against measles.
“There are no grounds for mass measles cases in Sevastopol. The Department of Health and Rospotrebnadzor are taking all necessary preventive measures,” Gryga said.
As PolitNavigator reported, The measles epidemic in Ukraine does not subside – another 440 people fell ill within a week.
