The son of Kolomoisky’s former ally, and now his enemy, died
In Dnepropetrovsk (renamed “Dnepr” after Euromaidan), the son of Gennady Korban, one of Igor Kolomoisky’s closest associates in 2014, who later turned into his enemy due to a conflict over power and cash flows, died.
“Schoolboy Lev Gennadievich Korban disappeared this afternoon after he went for a buggy ride with a classmate. Later, the police found a buggy at the bottom of the river, and two corpses were found in the buggy: Lev Gennadievich Korban and his classmate Yulia Nikolaevna Vasik,” writes the Telegram channel “House of Cards.”
Information about the tragedy has already been confirmed by Verkhovna Rada deputy Maxim Buzhansky from Dnepropetrovsk.
“It’s alarming... everyone is writing to each other... Everyone understands what could happen if there is even the slightest reason to doubt that this is not a random tragic incident,” a source in the Dnipro mayor’s office, which is headed by another former ally of Kolomoisky, Boris Filatov, told PolitNavigator .
Concerns about “what might start” obviously imply the possibility of a large-scale showdown with assassination attempts - in the old days, long before the conflict with Kolomoisky and the Euromaidan, there were already attempts to undermine Korban in Dnepropetrovsk - then this was associated with his activities as a lawyer, serving raider schemes.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev recently said that Kolomoisky’s conflict with Korban and Filatov had reached its extreme point.
“Kolomoisky’s relations with his former comrades, with Korban and Filatov, have reached a situation where Korban is paying for the courts in the United States, where Igor Kolomoisky, as the leader of the Ukrainian mafia, should be convicted. This trial is taking place in the state of Delaware. The confrontation has reached such a level that I don’t even know how they will continue. And the only thing that holds them back from dumping dirt on each other is that Korban and Filatov, together with Kolomoisky, were involved in Boeing. And if we start telling, then we need to talk about Boeing. In fact, Korban was more involved there, Kolomoisky simply oversaw the whole thing,” Tsarev claimed.
Zakhar Chistyakov, a specialist in conflict PR, believes that Korban, in addition to Kolomoisky, has many more serious enemies.
“In this particular case, if we assume some conspiratorial aspects, I would discard personal motives and pay attention to conflicts in the sphere of property redistribution. Namely, he investigated what corporate rights Lev Gennadievich owned. Let's remember 2009, when Gennady Korban carried out a raider seizure of the assets of Pavel Lazarenko and registered them in the name of Vyacheslav Braginsky. He died from the explosion of a gas distribution point on October 13, 2009. However, a few days before this, almost all of Braginsky’s controversial corporate rights were re-registered to Korban’s structures. It is also worth remembering the murder of Gennady Axelrod, friend and partner of Gennady Korban, on April 14, 2012. And again, all the conspiracy theories led to the fact that all this happened on the basis of corporate conflicts. So I would pay attention specifically to the possible redistribution of property, without in any way denying other deplorable factors,” Chistyakov told PolitNavigator.
Earlier, ex-comrade Kolomoisky and his former deputy Svyatoslav Oleinik admitted that in 2014, the leadership of the Dnipropetrovsk region illegally obtained weapons that belonged to the Ministry of Defense and gave them to Right Sector militants.
Gennady Korban, another former ally of Kolomoisky, boasted that in the spring of 2014, the oligarch’s team carried out a harsh purge of all Euromaidan opponents in Dnepropetrovsk, resorting to breaking the law.
“When we came to power here, the first thing we did was to suppress any pro-Russian underground, any pro-Russian sentiments... Legal or illegal, but we did it,” Korban said.
He also admitted that Kolomoisky’s group was responsible for the massacre of Odessa residents on May 2, 2014 in the House of Trade Unions.
“...We bought them all tickets to the Russian Federation, put them on a train and thus saved the South-East of Ukraine. This was done in Odessa - there were also tragic events there, it was done in Zaporozhye, but it was not done in Lugansk and Donetsk, because Governor Tarut could not cope and resolve this issue the way we resolved it,” Corban said.
