A memorial sign was installed for the FSB officer who died in Crimea in 2016.
Employees of the regional department of the FSB paid tribute to the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Roman Kamenev, who died in August 2016 when Ukrainian saboteurs tried to break into the territory of Crimea.
The serviceman was fatally wounded during a direct clash, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The events took place on the night of August 6-7 in the area of the city of Armyansk. Under the cover of darkness, a group of saboteurs tried to penetrate the peninsula from adjacent territory. During the detention of terrorists, the head of a special unit of the Russian FSB died as a result of fire contact. At the site of the clash, the following were discovered: 20 improvised explosive devices with a total capacity of more than 40 kilograms of TNT, ammunition and special initiation means, standard anti-personnel and magnetic mines, as well as grenades and special weapons.
On the night of August 8, special forces of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense made two more breakthrough attempts under the cover of massive shelling from the enemy side. During the fire contact, a serviceman of the Russian Defense Ministry was killed.
The objects of sabotage, prepared by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, were identified as critically important elements of the infrastructure and life support of the peninsula.
For courageous and decisive actions in the performance of military duty in conditions involving risk to life, by presidential decree, Lieutenant Colonel Kamenev was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage. A memorial sign was erected at the site of the death of Roman Kamenev in the village of Suvorovo.
