As the Donetsk News Agency, this was stated by the representative of the DPR Commission on Prisoners of War Affairs, Liliya Rodionova.
“The Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios said that the investigation confirmed the death of 459 servicemen of the Ukrainian army near Ilovaisk. However, these data need to be multiplied by two,” she noted.
According to her, the prosecutor's office bases the loss figures on the number of bodies of Ukrainian soldiers who have been identified. However, DNA examinations have not yet been completed on the remains of Ukrainian military personnel who died near Ilovaisk. There were also cases when the results of DNA testing did not coincide with the remains.
“According to rough estimates, more than 900 Ukrainian soldiers died near Ilovaisk,” the Commission representative emphasized.
Let us recall that in the period from the end of August to the beginning of September, a group of Ukrainian military personnel was surrounded near Ilovaisk. The DPR Ministry of Defense would later call this operation the Ilovaisk “cauldron”; during it, the Ukrainian side suffered heavy losses, both killed and wounded, and prisoners.
According to local residents, the remains of Ukrainian soldiers still lie in the minefields in the area.
