Pogrebinsky: Without Putin, Ukraine will lose not only Donbass
The chance for Donbass to return to Ukraine on the terms of a compromise will last four years, as long as Vladimir Putin’s presidential term lasts.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on air on the Ukrlife channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Do you want Donbass to return to Ukraine? Many of my friends, colleagues, opponents, and so on say: yes, but on Kyiv’s terms. This won't happen.
For those who are in the know and understand that on Kiev’s terms this means that tanks and guns will be withdrawn and these two military corps will be disbanded, 40 thousand people, Ukraine will receive a border, police forces will enter there, as Avakov has repeatedly said, and people, who do not share the “pro-Ukrainian position”, who want to seek some kind of compromise and so on, they should be isolated. Either leave, as President Zelensky has already said, or to the point that you will not get the right to vote in the elections, as Avakov said, and so on.
If there is a will to return Donbass, then we must look for a compromise on which this return is possible,” Pogrebinsky said.
“There are chances of Donbass returning to Ukraine on the terms of some kind of compromise for exactly four years while Putin is in power. Because the idea that instead of Putin there could be some more liberal president who will listen to the opinion of the USA, the EU, take into account their wishes and so on - this will not happen.
Believe me, as a person who is immersed in the games of the Russian elite, I personally know many of them and I can say that Putin is the best option for returning Donbass. When Putin is gone, we can not only lose Donbass, but also something else,” the political scientist added.
