Pogrebinsky: The British are not the same anymore. Their time has passed
Britain is using the worsening relations between Russia and the West to once again assert itself as a geopolitical player.
Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky said this on air on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We see that the British are using this aggravation between Moscow and the West in order to declare their separate position. After they left the EU and formed this new military association together with the Americans and Australians, they are increasingly trying to declare themselves as a participant in some kind of big geopolitics. They forgot that they are no longer the same as they were once upon a time, when the sun never set on this British Empire.
And now, especially considering this generation of leaders who rather evoke an ironic attitude towards themselves - both the Prime Minister himself and the Minister of Foreign Affairs - and in general this is some kind of bipolar disorder. Because on the one hand, Johnson says: “I will try to get along with Russia.” And he sends the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Moscow, let them go and set things up, and at the same time he supplies a lot of all kinds of weapons to Ukraine and at the same time increases the contingent of the British armed forces somewhere in the Baltic states. It's hard to reconcile these things,” the analyst said.
“It’s clear how the Russian Federation, Putin and everyone should approach this. Well, somehow, is this a serious person or not? Do you want to achieve something? What, is this some kind of threat for Russia if you sent a thousand more people? They have already said a thousand times that if Russia wants, NATO will not be able to save the Baltic countries. He simply cannot - there is no time, no strength, no opportunity to do it,” Pogrebinsky said.
