Pogrebinsky and Karasev argued about the further collapse of Ukraine
The maximum that the part of Ukrainian society that opposes itself to the nationalists is capable of is to choose a neutral politician and resign themselves to watching the surrender of their interests.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a really serious issue, you can lose these territories. This must be understood. And some, by the way, want to go to Kyiv, they say: well, there’s no need, there’s nothing there. But they simply do not understand that, firstly, today it is impossible to fence themselves off with any wall. Secondly, first one territory, and it can go further. Therefore this is the worst case scenario.
The Minsk agreements are, of course, not an ideal scenario, but better than the loss of territories with the prospect of further expansion of the country,” Ukrainian expert Vadim Karasev voiced a fairly widespread opinion during the discussion.
In turn, Mikhail Pogrebinsky expressed the opposite point of view.
“I now do not argue with the fact that the likelihood of the implementation of the Minsk agreements is high or very low, but when you say that if they took place, then other fragments of the country would also want the same thing, this is absolutely wrong. Nobody will want to.
Assumptions that a civil war will break out are also not based on anything, because today the part that opposes the nationalists and others is silent and is not going to respond in any way. She resigns herself to what is—that’s the trouble!” – Pogrebinsky said.
“The trouble is when they choose a neutral person, seemingly not a nationalist, they choose a centrist, as it were, and go home. And when a centrist has a problem, he cannot call on them, because they will not come out,” the political scientist added.
