Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was unable to achieve a confident advantage over Petro Poroshenko in the first round of elections, because she used the same nationalist rhetoric as the current president.

Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the UkrLife Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The expert emphasizes that Tymoshenko was let down by her reliance on nationalist slogans. Her mistake was that she did not take into account that large cities are Russian-speaking and did not work with the population of the part of Donbass controlled by Ukraine.

“It seems to me that the reason is that both Gritsenko and Yulia Vladimirovna were shepherding Poroshenko’s backside. No other ideas except that “Poroshenko is a corrupt official, but I am not, I will come and be there too: “Army, language, faith.” Thanks to the tomos, Poroshenko got some kind of chance, because without it he wouldn’t have gotten out at all.

There are a significant number of people who support this cause. Three or four months before the elections, he was in fifth or sixth place. After this story with the tomos, he added.

What, Yulia Vladimirovna said that Pyotr Alekseevich is using a religious topic, very delicate and complex, violating the Constitution, just to get points in the struggle for power? She didn’t say anything like that, she actually approved the tomos.

This was one of the key themes in the last months before the elections. Regarding peace in Donbass, the rhetoric is slightly different, but 90% is the exact position of Pyotr Alekseevich, whom I conventionally call the war party.

By the way, Dima Razumkov, who is Zelensky’s speaker, he said almost the same thing regarding Donbass - “we will follow the diplomatic path, but this path is that the West, Europe, especially the USA, we are counting on them to put pressure sanctions on Russia. And in the end, we will get what we want. Peace on our terms."

Not a word about compromise, negotiations and so on.

Tymoshenko said the same thing, and Zelensky also mentioned this Budapest memorandum. Well, this, I would say, is completely childish talk...

Her position alienated a significant part of the believers of the Moscow Patriarchate from her - why was this done? It’s still Petin’s trick. Why just support Petina's chip? Working in this fairway, it was impossible to bypass Petya...

Besides, she knew well – I read somewhere that she said that “the city didn’t believe us.” So we have known for many years that its main electorate is the village. In order to get at least part of the city’s electorate, a significant part, you need to meet these people halfway.

By the way, they all speak Russian. 95%. Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Odessa, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye and so on. To do this, you need to show that you, unlike this abnormal Poroshenko, are a sane person,” Pogrebinsky said.
