Pogrebinsky: The Kremlin will come to terms with Ukraine under two conditions
Relations between Russia and Ukraine will be normalized if Kyiv gives guarantees to Moscow about not joining NATO and respects the rights of the Russian population.
Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky said this on air on the TV Center channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What can Russia give to Ukraine? It seems to me that, first of all, the preservation of the current Ukrainian state and the security of its internal balance. Because what the West offers is only partially accepted by the majority of the population. Including some Western values are not perceived both in the East and in the West of the country.
Russia can say: “Guys, live, move towards the EU, we are not against it. But give us guarantees that there will be no American military bases here, that you will not become a member of NATO, that you will respect our compatriots, the Russians. And then we will live well with you, you will enter into contracts with us that will be beneficial to both you and us,” the expert noted.
Pogrebinsky expressed deep doubt that reforms carried out at the behest of foreign curators will bring anything good to Ukraine.
“Ukraine turned out to be another subject on which the fading liberal Western elite is experimenting. People came to power who share views formed by grant structures, studying abroad, and so on.
There's a lot of things right there. But I do not know the positive result of this kind of ideology in relation to countries where the IMF dictated how to carry out reforms. Perhaps in our case this will be some kind of remarkable exception,” the political scientist added.
