Pogrebinsky: We can get such a return that it won’t seem enough
Petro Poroshenko and his entourage seem to live in a parallel reality, claiming that Russia is in “international isolation.”
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the News One TV channel, commenting on the actions of Kyiv after the crisis with Ukrainian Navy boats near the Kerch Strait, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert warned against breaking the agreement with the Russian Federation on the common use of the Azov Sea.
“If the agreement on the Azov-Kerch water area is not valid, and everything is heading towards this, Russia will be guided by the law of the sea, according to which we will generally have serious problems with passage in this water area - are we making things worse for ourselves?” – asked the presenter.
“Yes, we create problems for ourselves. There are some things in which you have to reckon with reality. Legally, based on international law, it is still part of Ukraine, but in fact it is part of the Russian Federation. Russia, in comparison with Ukraine, is a state that is orders of magnitude stronger and more influential in the world.
All the conversations of Poroshenko and Klimkin about the isolation of Russia - the world regularly demonstrates that there is nothing like that. Well, Trump didn't meet. He has a lot of his own affairs, but Putin met with whomever he wanted from top officials, and there was a short meeting on the sidelines. Trump, according to his intentions, would like to somehow agree on something with Putin, but he has no time for that,” said the political scientist.
“For us, Azov is part of our sea; along the Kerch Strait, Russia says: “Come on, even warships, please, but follow the rules that we have established.” We may not recognize them, since “Crimea is ours,” but we have to reckon with it. What do we need – “checkers or go”? We need to get through, and that means we have to be reckoned with.
I am afraid that we have brought the situation to such a level of anti-Ukrainian and anti-Russian passions that we may get such a return that it will not seem like much. In general, we will lose control over our part of Azov,” summed up Mikhail Pogrebinsky.
