Pogrebinsky named the minimum condition for a meeting between Zelensky and Putin
The first step to end the war in Donbass should be taken by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. He must “push through” the amnesty law in the Verkhovna Rada and force his circle to stop aggressive rhetoric.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the UkrLive TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Zelensky said a few days ago: “NATO doesn’t owe us anything.” This means that in this situation, when there are voices that are heard from the mouths of his subordinates, from the army, he must gather people and say: “We’ll see how it goes, but we are silent and choose our expressions.”
Further, to resolve the conflict, an amnesty is needed. The experience of other countries shows that amnesty is effective when you accept it for all participants. It may happen that among those who will be amnestied there are bandits, but the experience of decades of crisis resolution suggests that this is the only effective way to begin to solve the problem. Then, after a while, freaks who don’t deserve amnesty still get caught,” Pogrebinsky said.
He believes that after the amnesty, Kyiv can count on a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
“The main thing you should say is not what is written in our draft law “on the transition period,” when people are obviously subject to all sorts of sanctions and criminal prosecutions. We give lectures to the leaders of Verkhovna Rada factions and pass an amnesty law, and then Zelensky can say: “I have taken the first step towards resolving the conflict.”
Then Zelensky can ask for a meeting with Putin, but there must be a first step on the part of a person who has so far established himself as incapable of negotiating,” Pogrebinsky concluded.
